Who are you and who are the people behind the name?
We are Toby and Molly, a couple in our 20s that took on The Bush Inn leasehold a year and a half ago. Molly grew up in The Bush as a young child when her parents bought it at auction in 2005. However, in 2013 the lease was sold on, but in March 2024, 11 years later, Molly’s back and at the helm. Alongside running the Bush, Toby is a full time dairy farmer, a mile from the pub, luckily he likes to keep busy.
Name your top three best selling drinks and if you do a guest ale - what's the line-up?
- Tribute - the favourite by far for locals and holiday makers
- HSD - also known as Hicks but not at The Bush
- Rattler - the best of the best and loved by all. Especially Toby
We always have a guest ale and cider on. Favourites include Otter Ale and Meor IPA and Thundering Molly Cider.
If you serve food - what's your signature dish?
Korev beer battered fish and chips made from scratch with fresh fish delivered to our door every day.
If you have a jukebox - what's the top most played tune?
We don’t have a jukebox but Proud Mary never disappoints on a Friday night.
Funniest/weirdest moment and/or stand-out memory?
At Bush Fest 2025, there was a T Rex raving to a Fatboy Slim remix.
What would being named pub of the year mean to you?
Although the history and location of The Bush Inn are unbeatable and do a lot of the work for us, our team work so hard to do it justice with great service with a smile, delicious local food and the best kept beer in the land to bring our customers the full Bush Inn experience! It would be a real testament to all of the hard work that has been put in over the past year and a half.
Give one reason why it’s vital people support their local boozer in 2025 and beyond
Rural pubs like ours are the hub of small communities; communities that consist of hard working people that often spend a lot of their time working alone. This includes farmers, builders, cleaners, etc and so having a place where everybody can come together after a hard day’s work and have a yarn, a moan, a laugh and everything in between is absolutely crucial for the wellbeing of our society.
